another month flown by...
my gosh. i can sure get lazy and behind! another month has passed, my primary care rotation was actually wonderful despite the 1h commute each way. i loved seeing patients on my own, hearing their story, and trying to "fix" them. felt like a real practioner. can't wait to get out and start prescribing meds and such! the car was a great addition too--sure going to miss it.
now i'm on ob/gyn service, and i've "delivered" 2 babies on my on-call nights (24h overnight in hospital). first one popped right out, second one took longer 'cuz it was 9#! so chubby! rest of the time i've been in gyn surgery doing lotsa hysterectomies and even removed an ectopic pregnancy (where a baby grows in the tube instead of the uterus, thus endangering the mother). next week i go full-time into Labor and Delivery so i hope to see many more babies, including c-sections and maybe even twins! so far...i'm still not deterred from having babies. they are soooo cute when the come out, even with all the guck on them! and so very very tiny.
radu had his first "unexpected" singles loss in badminton in years....actually lost to a badminton friend of ours in an exciting but excrutiating painful 3 set match. he finally cramped up in the 3rd game and couldn't really move normally...but managed to finish the match. quite painful to watch. i'm sure it really hurt his ego to lose, but he had good sportsmanship during the game. now he's re-motivated to train and get back in shape (both of us waaay outta shape over holidays, i haven't gone to the gym in ages). me on the other hand managed to make it to singles finals again against melinda, and lost. i wasn't really hoping for much as i'm so unconditioned (last time i played her, i was running 3-4 miles/day, no problem, and lifting too....now i can't even go 1/2 mile without dying). so i lost 1,5. better score than last time! haha, i think we are all out of shape! at least i made $120. =)
hrm, what a boring post! i guess that's why i haven't been posting much lately--my life revolves around school pretty much. oh i can add this: i did an annual gyne exam on a 642 pound lady last week. yes, i'm not joking. she was the size of 3-4 men. i actually really wanted to do it...thought it would give me a good lesson. turns out it took two of us to spread her legs...i felt so bad for her. when i finished my exam, the MD asked me, "is she sexually active?". i hadn't asked; 1) chances are very slim, no offense, 2) the poor lady was embarrased enough about her size the second i stepped in the room. she was on birth control (btw, i work in a catholic hospital where we are not allowed to write "birth control method" but can only say "hormonal regulation method") and the MD wanted to know why...turns out she wasn't active. but that was an interesting experience, esp when she nearly toppled off the table trying to sit up. =P
